Karina Lukshina, a young girl from Volgograd region, has finally received her long-awaited gift. With your help, we were able to purchase her a gait trainer!
Needed: Mustang gait trainer costing 141,000 rubles (approx. $ 2,497).
Diagnosis: Organic brain damage. Infantile cerebral palsy (ICP), moderate spastic diplegia. Symptomatic epilepsy.
From her mother’s letter:
Unfortunately during birth, Karina suffered damage to her subcortex, which is responsible for her motor skills. Because of this, Karina cannot stand on her own or talk. She can, however, sit leaning on her arms, stand in a standing frame, and she is learning to crawl and type on the computer.
Karina used to move around in an Aibolit gait trainer at the rehabilitation center and at home, but she has long since outgrown her walker. The doctors recommend getting a Mustang gait trainer, which would motivate Karina to stand and walk, help reduce joint contractures (which limits the range of motion in her joints), strengthen her legs, and reduce spasticity.
We’d like to sincerely thank these people in particular for their donations:
- 4,000 rubles donated by M. Brailovsky;
- 137,000 rubles from anonymous donations made to donation boxes at BP gas stations.
Thanks to your generous support, Karina can already stand and walk in her gait trainer for twenty minutes a day! With regular training, she will gradually strengthen her leg and back muscles.
