Diagnosis: Spastic hyperkinetic form of cerebral palsy, GMFCS level III, MACS III, delayed motor development, speech underdevelopment, cognitive impairments, congenital changes in the right eye – microphthalmia and microcornea, operative coreclisis, total retinal detachment, equino planovalgus foot deformities.
Expectations after the rehabilitation: Artyom will be able to stand without any help, walk on a treadmill, strengthen his back and legs muscles.
From his mom’s letter:
«Artyom was born right on time with normal weight and height (3.760 kg and 55 cm). Doctors said he was absolutely healthy! But he wasn’t. When he was just 2 months old, doctors found a tumor in his right eye. Later he had 3 surgeries on this eye. And in the end, he is blind in this eye! When he was 4 months old he was also diagnosed with a congenital cytomegalovirus infection which caused the eye disease and cerebral palsy. When finally, my son’s diagnoses were determined, the doctors offered me to abandon him. When I asked for help, I was advised to leave him in a nursing home!
There are three of us in the family – me, my son and my mom. When Artyom was just 2 weeks old, his father left us and died shortly afterwards. To be able to pay for my son’s treatments and rehabilitations, we had to sell our big 3-room apartment and buy a smaller one with just 2 rooms, but the money was spent very quickly.
Artyom needs more treatments and a rehabilitation course. We shouldn’t stop the treatments at any price! Now Artyom is 8 years and 8 months old, he can sit, crawl, play many learning games and even a tablet, eat solid food, stand by his bed and walk with other’s help, he can speak a little bit…We have achieved a lot. It is painful to recall the times when he couldn’t do any of these things, when he could only lie.
I give almost all my time to my son, but I am not a professional in speech pathology or physical therapy. He is getting better, not as fast as I would hope, but there are improvements. That’s why I want to give my lovely boy an opportunity to accelerate his recovery, and the experts from the center “Rodnik” can help him! Comprehensive rehabilitation course in the summer offered in the center is the best, to my mind, because it includes water exercises, and there will be an opportunity to consult with new experts.
Please help us! We don’t have anything to sell anymore, there is only a small amount of pension my son gets from the government. We live together with my mother, and she is very ill, she barely walks with a stick and going to have to undergo at least 5 surgeries. My son is a very promising boy, and we can’t lose the achievement we have worked for all this time! I am hoping that there are people who care and who will help us. Please know that we will not make it without you. »

In case the funds raised for a particular child exceed the required amount, the balance shall be used to cover treatments for other children and other expenses associated with the present program (Clause 1.6.3 of the “Regulations of the charity program of targeted help “Shag Navstrechu” (Take a Step).
