Requires: rehabilitation course in the rehabilitation center “Shag za Shagom” (Barnaul), worth 93,700 rubles.
Diagnosis: cerebral palsy, developmental delay.
Irina’s mother found out that she was pregnant on a lovely warm May day. She got registered in the clinic for pregnant women and took regular blood tests. She was getting ready to welcome her baby in this world. Everything seemed fine – summer and autumn came and went. Then suddenly, one week after the New Year on her 28 week of pregnancy Irina got a stomachache. The ambulance took her to maternity wing. It was a shift turnover so she had to wait. That half an hour was life-changing for the baby.
From her mother’s letter:
“When the doctors came, they were horrified and started shouting that my baby’s head turned blue. That was how Irina was born…
My daughter learnt to hold her head in due time, but when she turned four months old, she got a squint in both eyes. We had MRI and my baby was diagnosed with dropsy of brain. She’s been undergoing treatment since she was five months old. We applied for social benefits when Irina was seven months old, right after she’d been diagnosed with cerebral palsy and spastic diplegia.
Since her birth and up till 2015 we got treatment every three months in Barnaul in the district hospital – it included massages, physical, leech and manual therapy, etc. It was very expensive for us to go to Barnaul so often. We then went to health centers, twice in Kurgan. In 2017-2019 we went to Moscow for rehabilitation – we were examined by a doctor from Spain who reassured us that my daughter will be able to walk if she gets regular rehabilitation.
Irina is 12, and she dreams of walking on her own. In 2018 she had a surgery on both feet (Ulzibat’s method) and my daughter began to take 10-12 steps. You can’t even imagine how happy we were!
My daughter is smart – she is a straight “A” student at school. I take her to classes and then meet and bring home. Irina dreams of being the same as her classmates. She doesn’t lag behind intellectually and she wants to master motor skills as well. She wants to go for a walk with her friends one day. But so far her dream is out of reach because of her disease.
We particularly need help right now as the previous rehabilitation courses were very effective! We can’t waste time – we must prevent any relapse in her progress. There’s a small window of opportunity for her to learn to walk. You are our last hope.
Irina always does her best and achieves great results. After one more rehabilitation course we hope that her muscles and legs will learn to move properly. That will change our lives for the better!
I’m a single mother and ours is a low-income family. There’s no one we can turn to for help. The fund and the kind people out there are our only hope. Please, help us!
God bless you for your kind hearts!”
The fund is launching a fundraising campaign to help Irina!
