From her mom’s letter:
«The pregnancy was planned and everything was going well and labs were good. But on the 29th week my beautiful girl Sofia was born. She was 40 cm and weighed 1270 grams. She was recovering slowly, but still recovering. It was so hard emotionally and mentally; I didn’t have anyone by my side. I spoke with my family and friends only on the phone. I cried countless times, always thought about all mistakes I made, I blamed myself, others, the whole world… But I could change nothing… Sonya’s recovery took 2 months. Finally, after such a long time, we reunited with her father. We were discharged with the whole list of diagnoses and medications. Her diagnosis was determined when she was 1 and the delay in her development was obvious, and when she was 1.4 she was registered as a disabled person. Sofia has been steadily undergoing rehabilitation since she turned 10 months: active and passive exercise therapy, massage, speech therapy, consultations with a psychologist, micropolarization, swimming, hippotherapy, Montessori classes, a lot of medications, study at home. Sonya is 7 years old, and she is not quite independent physically: she can roll over from her back to her stomach, crawl on her stomach and on hands and knees and tries to get up and stand on her knees, she can stand with help and tries to walk on a walker. Her intellectual abilities are fine: she can speak, express her thoughts and understand other people. This year Sonya has already entered preschool.
Now we need a rehabilitation course. As we attend school now and don’t have much time for exercising at home, the pandemic also had a great impact in our routine. Many foundations don’t want to help us. The last time Sofia underwent a rehabilitation, she learned to take first steps on a walker, and it is so important to us to maintain these amazing results, so she would be able to independently navigate herself at school. We take small steps, but we are moving forward! We really need the rehabilitation course in the Sports and Recreation Center “Ty zdorov”. I believe that their comprehensive approach will show immediate impact. Sofia gets very happy and encouraged when she can walk even with a walker.
Every course is a huge step forward. Please do not leave us alone in this situation. All Sofia wants is to play and run around like all healthy kids. To have a normal childhood filled with joy. And the only way we can make this happen is getting help from People Who Care. »
