Environmental studies say that disposable dishes make up 86.4% of all garbage that can be found at the Black Sea coast. Is it possible to reduce the harm caused to nature by people only by sorting waste in a right way or by giving up disposable tableware? What can be made of recycled items? What kind of waste is considered hazardous and where should it be disposed of? What can be recycled and what things are made from recycled materials?
The employees of Renault Russia, that has been supporting us for a long time, told about all this recently at an eco-lesson to the wards of the Fund – the pupils of the State Official Educational Establishment of the Moscow Region for orphans and children with disabilities deprived of parental care. The company has already helped the children before, but it was the first time it has arrived with such an educational mission – an environmental lesson.
The eco-lesson at the Children’s Home “Doverie” was attended by the company’s leading ecologist Nadezhda Efimova, lawyer Elena Gilts, (she separates garbage at home and participates in eco-projects), and communications specialist Marina Lysenko.
“You don’t have to be an ecologist to take care of the planet,” said Nadezhda Efimova. – We know a lot about environmental protection, separate waste collection and we apply many things in practice. We are worried about our planet, but we know how we can help it, so we share our knowledge with others: with relatives, colleagues (environmental protection is one of the priorities at Renault), the young generation. And today we have shared this important knowledge with the wards of the “Diema’s Dream” Foundation – pupils of the “Doverie” Children’s Home.
The guests from Renault Russia not only told the children a lot of interesting and useful things, but also held an interactive game “Help the Planet”. The children were divided into three groups to learn how to help the planet. They performed small tasks at three stations: a disposable station, a hazardous waste station, and a garbage station. Together with Nadezhda, Elena and Marina, they enthusiastically looked for a replacement for disposable items, distinguished between items that should be utilized or recycled and sorted the garbage.
Last year the employees of Renault Russia were asked to stop drinking from disposable cups, and instead were given reusable bottles. At the end of the eco-lesson, the company’s specialists also invited children to support this initiative. They presented the children with the same branded water bottles so that the children could also use less disposable tableware and contribute to the conservation of nature.
State Official Educational Establishment “Doverie” is located in the ancient village of Almazovo, Shchelkovo district. This is one of the few remaining institutions in the Moscow region for orphans and the only one for children with disabilities. Since 2009, we have been supporting “Doverie” Orphanage, which has been headed by Svetlana Nikolaevna Kruchinina for many years. For example, we helped with equipping the family rooms for children and sent New Year gifts.
