Since 2013, the Diema’s Dream Fund has been implementing the Portage Practice project, aimed at rehabilitating and improving the quality of life of orphaned children with multiple disorders. The Portage method is a simple and universal technology for individual work with children with disabilities, which has proven to be highly effective in meeting the individual development needs of children with disabilities around the world.
This method allows you to work in a variety of conditions – with children in families at home and with orphans; of different ages, with different types and degrees of health disorders, including multiple disorders. Thanks to the Portage, children who were considered “hopeless” acquire new vital skills: they learn to wash, dress, eat and drink independently, distinguish colors, assemble constructors, and master basic socialization skills. This is proven in practice – over 7 years of work, specially trained specialists of the Portage teams conducted 45,623 individual classes for 169 children!12 Portage teams are already successfully operating in 5 regions of Russia, and we are getting amazing results!
We continue training in the framework of pilot projects Portage for specialists working with children – teachers, speech pathologists, psychologists. In 2019, installation sessions were held for 7 new teams in orphanages and boarding schools, 48 specialists received successful experience in the Portage method with children with special needs. Over the entire period of the project in Russia, we have trained 188 specialists, but the need for them is significally higher.
