In the City Psychological and Pedagogical Center of the Department of Education and Science of the City of Moscow, 9 Portage pilot teams began their work.
In 9 territorial departments, teams of specialists work with children with disabilities using the unique Portage method.
In working with children with severe and multiple developmental disorders, there are cases when it is not possible to teach a child elementary things using conventional methods and under normal conditions. The Portage system allows you to solve such problems and allows you to teach life-saving skills even to children with the most severe disabilities.
Important principles of the methodology are the teamwork of specialists, a multidisciplinary approach, the correct formulation of long-term and short-term goals, the celebration of the result, and others.
CHILD / FAMILY / SOCIETY AS A ONE – work is carried out with the family, who participates in the life of the child. The needs of all who interact with the child are taken into account, including the circle of communication and the institutions that the child attends.
As a result of the Pilot Project, we expect that all specialists of the teams will master:
– principles of working with children according to the “Portage” method;
– teamwork skills according to the “Portage” system;
– Portage materials: Checklists, Activity Cards, Activity Tables;
– formation of the individual profile of the child;
– the skills of setting goals and celebrating the victories of little wards and much more.
Children participating in the project always respond with gratitude to such classes. Regardless of whether classes are held in the institution (in the case of orphans) or in the family, when the tasks are performed by the parents with the support of the center’s consultant, the result is always positive.
To guarantee the effectiveness of working with a child using the Portage method, the very principles and standards that are embedded in the methodology allow. That is why the Diema’s Dream Charitable Foundation has been supporting the development of this area for more than 9 years. We want every child with SMDD to have access to specialists to help them reach their full potential and teach life skills.
When a child with severe and multiple disorders of psychophysical development (SMDD) grows up, it is important whether he knows how to eat on his own, dress, put on shoes, communicate with others in the ways available to him, and it is important to be as socialized as possible.
We wish the new teams success in the pilot project and look forward to the results!
This is very necessary for children with SMDD here and now.
We would like to thank our partners for their trust and support: the State Psychological and Pedagogical Center of Moscow, Boeing Russia, Renault Russia and Portage Specialists Association.
