A seminar “Basic principles of the“ Portage ”methodology in individual work with children with disabilities” was held at the coworking center of an NGO in Moscow for specialists from centers for promoting family education, centers for social support and rehabilitation of disabled children and other children’s institutions for children with disabilities. health opportunities.
Within 3 days 35 specialists from 8 institutions in Moscow and Obninsk mastered the method of working with children according to the Portage method.
As a result of the seminar, 2 more pilot Portage teams will be launched in Moscow and Obninsk. In addition, three more Portage teams in Moscow and Ryazan will replenish their teams with newly trained specialists.
The following topics were presented by the trainers of the workshop:
Creation of an individual initial development profile of the child.
Formulation of a clear description of the child’s behavior that is understandable to parents and other professionals.
Developing a curriculum for the child by setting clear, minimal, consistent goals.
Using 5 learning planning strategies.
Establishing clear criteria for assessing the effectiveness of training.
Organization of parental observation diaries.
Analysis and elimination of learning difficulties, application of 6 strategies.
Formation of skills at the level of competencies.
Managing problem behavior using the ABC method.
Teamwork with specialists of various specialties.
In addition to the theoretical part, practical exercises and role-playing games were conducted with all the participants of the seminar.
