SEMINAR “Basic principles of the” Portage “methodology in individual work with children with disabilities”

The target audience:
heads and specialists of educational and social protection organizations that provide assistance to families raising children with disabilities;
heads and specialists of boarding schools for education and social protection, in which children with disabilities live and are brought up;
pedagogues-defectologists;

other specialists working with children with disabilities.
Seminar participants learn:
Create an individual initial profile of the child’s development using the principles of the Portage system.
Formulate a clear description of the child’s behavior that is understandable to parents and other professionals.
Design a curriculum for your child by setting clear, minimal, consistent goals.
Use 5 learning planning strategies to improve learning efficiency.
Establish clear criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of training.
Organize parental observation diaries.
Analyze and resolve learning difficulties using 6 strategies.
Build skills at the competency level.
Manage problem behaviors using the ABC method.
Work in a team with specialists of various specialties, including their recommendations in your training program.
Throughout the seminar, visual video and photographic materials of the experience of using “Portage” in Russia and abroad will be shown.

From each organization, we invite a team of at least 3 specialists who work directly with children, and at least 2 managers of relevant competencies. This will allow you to immediately form the team necessary to start working according to the “Portage” method.
All participants will receive teaching materials.
Attention: A certificate confirming the acquisition of basic knowledge according to the “Portage” methodology and the right to work according to the methodology as part of the “Portage” team is issued to those who have completed all 3 days of the seminar.

The “Portage” methodology is an accurate, simple, universal technology of individual work with children, which makes it possible to teach life
important skills for children with the most severe and multiple developmental disabilities (MHD).
This socio – pedagogical model allows you to work in a variety of conditions – with family children and orphans; with a different nature and degree of health disorders, including severe and multiple developmental disorders; with children of different ages.
Classes can be conducted by specialists of various specialties and volunteer students, they can be conducted at home, in educational
organizations, orphanages and other institutions.
Portage has been used all over the world since the 70s of the 20th century. In Russia, more than 10 years ago, the methodology was successfully applied by Russian
organizations, and the methodological materials Portage formed the basis of the early assistance system. The Association of Specialists was registered in 2021
Portage in Russia.
In 5 regions of Russia, with the support of the Diema’s Dream Charitable Foundation, 15 Portage teams are working and there is a unique experience in applying the methodology in working with children with severe mental and physical disabilities who were considered “unpromising” and “unteachable”.
Thanks to the lessons, these children, who were previously considered “hopeless and hopeless”, learned how to wash and dress, drink and eat,
sit, stand and walk, assemble constructors, draw and cut, distinguish colors, recognize objects, count, look at books, and
mastered many other motor and cognitive skills, skills from the sphere of self-service. In children, the formation and
development of speech, and active socialization – they began to communicate and play with each other and with adults, get acquainted with the world around them, went out
from their chambers and began to walk in the street.
