Charitable Foundation for Orphans and Disabled Children “Diema’s Dream”, with grant support from the Vladimir Potanin Charitable Foundation, has completed the formation of the target capital “Diema’s Dream” for the purpose of using it in the field of social assistance (support). Alfa Capital became the managing company.
For the past 16 years, the programs of the Diema’s Dream Charitable Foundation have been aimed at helping children with severe and multiple developmental disorders (SMND).
Endowment capital is a safety cushion and a special kind of donation. If donations are usually spent directly on helping beneficiaries and running projects, then endowment funds are first transferred to a management company that works with them in the financial markets, and the income from the use of endowment capital is directed to help those in need, ensuring a constant flow of funds and protecting to some extent, the programs and projects of the fund from a critical lack of funds.
To form endowment capital means to diversify sources of income, which means that your donation may not be spent immediately, but will contribute to a good cause for decades. For hundreds of years, endowments of the largest universities and museums have existed in the world, supporting institutions and programs of education and culture. Endowment income helps to conduct research, promotes the development and implementation of innovations, encourages talented scientists, etc.
“Targeted capital in the field of social assistance in the world is much less than in education and culture. A certain challenge is not only to explain why it is necessary to help “in the long term”, if you can pay for the treatment or rehabilitation of a child right now. Another challenge lies in the limitations and welfare of the immediate beneficiaries. A great contribution to the replenishment of the endowment of the university, for example, is made by grateful graduates who have become successful and express their gratitude by contributing to the replenishment of the endowment of the university. That is, they can provide for themselves and support the university, invest in the education of future generations.
The beneficiaries of the Diema’s Dream Foundation cannot pay for their treatment, cannot pay for their current needs, especially since they cannot make contributions to help children in the future, even when they grow up. And yet, and especially for this reason, it is important that there is support for children with SMDD and their parents at all times.
We are building capital to create a foundation for the sustainability and development of social assistance for people with TMND.: – explains the director of the Diema’s Dream Charitable Foundation, Elena Volodina.
For more than 30 years, the foundation has been helping quite specific children specifically, to several institutions financially, and has implemented a number of successful projects: the “Center for Social Habilitation” for children with SMDD worked in Moscow until the moment when orphanages for mentally retarded children were reorganized into centers for promoting family education and many centers for these children. The Diema’s Dream Township program, implemented from 2008 to 2013, made it possible to demonstrate in practice the possibility of assisted living for the wards of neuropsychiatric boarding schools – even for those who have severe developmental disabilities. And now, accompanied living has received support and is developing independently of the efforts of the foundation.
Now the foundation supports the development of a system of work with children using the Portage method, which allows, with little effort, to form effective teams on the basis of educational, social security and healthcare institutions and ensure that wards with SMDD develop vital skills that children with SMDD could not master by other methods. This is especially true where there are not enough qualified specialists to work with SMDD Tomorrow, when life presents new challenges, the foundation will also direct efforts for the benefit of children with SMDD and their families.
“An important area of social assistance, which so far few people are involved in, is the prevention of disability and research in this area. So far, assistance to NGOs is similar to closing the gaps, but now we can see that the state has significantly improved the volume of assistance in the social sphere and support for families. At the same time, the advantage of non-profit organizations is to be more mobile, working out solutions to specific and sometimes narrow, specific problems, testing innovations and broadcasting successful experience to colleagues in the social sphere. Mutual cooperation allows us to advance in the development of the entire sphere as a whole. ”- comments Konstantin Eduardovich Pozharishchensky, Trustee of the Dima Mechta Foundation, Honored Doctor of Russia, professor-orthopedist.
