The final round table “Review of the results of the Pilot Project“ Portage ”was held in Ryazan.
BRAVO, teams Portage of ANO Dobroe Delo (Ryazan) and ANO Resource Center for the Prevention of Social Orphanhood (Ryazan) !!!
During the pilot project in total:
ANO “Resource Center for the Prevention of Social Orphanhood” conducted 2,622 developmental classes for children with TMND, 60 meetings of specialists. 14 children participated in the project, children mastered 260 new, vital skills.
Autonomous non-profit organization “Dobroe Delo” conducted 1,284 developmental classes for children with TMNR, 56 meetings of specialists. 9 children participated in the project, children mastered 42 new, vital skills.
Both teams started at the end of 2019 with completion planned for May 2020. A worldwide pandemic intervened and it was decided to continue the pilot project until the situation allowed the projects to be completed as required by the Portage standards.
It is the strict adherence to the standards and principles of Portage that makes it possible to achieve guaranteed success with children with TMND, even in cases where other methods are powerless.
The specialists of both teams work directly with children in the families of Ryazan and the region. It was an amazing and unique experience. Families received incredible support, especially during the quarantine. At that time, communication with the family and conducting classes was accompanied by Skype and other forms of online communication. The parents themselves conducted daily activities with the children.
It is important that the parents themselves, thanks to quarantine and self-isolation, delved into and took a great interest in classes with their own children. But it’s so natural, walking into the bathroom with your child to perform a simple movement from day to day, which will help in the future to form an important skill. For example, holding a toothbrush in your hand. First, with the help of an adult, then the adult only holds the elbow, and then the child himself brushes his teeth.
Ordinary children learn this by imitating the people around them. Our special guys need a special approach. It is impossible to write a uniform way of teaching. That is why team meetings of specialists and following a special methodology are important.
Medina Lechaevna Tarasova, a representative of the Portage team of the Elatomsky children’s home, the most experienced Portage team in Russia, spoke at the round table. She shared the results of the team and also answered questions from the participants.
The participation of the director of the Elatomsky children’s home, Galina Alekseevna Pavlyukova, was of particular value to us.
Thanks to her efforts, the life of the children in the orphanage has changed dramatically for the better. Galina Alekseevna shared her experience of working with parents of disabled children, wards of the institution.
Based on the results of the pilot projects, both teams decided to continue the practice of working with children using the Potrazh method, as well as to send them to participate in the Seminar “Basic principles of the Portage methodology”, which will be held in Moscow in October 2021 with the support of our foundation.
