In late August, the pilot project on the “Portage” methodology began at the Centre for Curative Pedagogy in Pskov.
Specialists trained in this unique method formed a team and passed on this knowledge in the form of a preparatory session under the guidance of Joan Pritchard, our colleague from the United Kingdom.
Several families from Pskov received advice on how to deal with rehabilitation and tackle developmental issues for their children with special needs, by practicing the Portage method which aids to improve children’s motor skills and learning.
Alongside the academic year beginning in September, the children themselves will also be engaging in a special methodology course to learn skills of self-dependency and communication, learn new things and discover their potential for development.
There are fourteen children and six specialists in total participating in the project – the project manager, team leader, specialists and a “Portage” consultant. It is planned that there will be more than 1,100 lessons taught in six months over the course of the project.
