Elena is our kind angel. She is volunteer of Diema’s Dream Fund. Elena translated into English (for the English version of the website) several stories of children for whose help we are raising fund. The English version read by our assistants from international companies in Russia. Translating children’s stories is not only about replacing Russian words with English it’s also about letting the child’s pain and mother’s prayer through oneself. Elena did a great job!
We wanted to know how Elena became a translator, what she loves and what she is interested in in her free time. We believe that our volunteers are extraordinary people. This is true!
“I work as a translator for a large international logistics company that actively implements volunteer initiatives. I always wanted to help others but I could not find for myself where and how I can help.
When I started translating children’s stories for Diema’s Dream Foundation I realized that I want to help on an ongoing basis. This feeling is difficult to explain I just realized that we must fight for these children together! I hope that I can contribute to the work of the fund” Elena wrote to us.
“Now we live in the countryside in a very picturesque place on the bank of the Barskiy pond close to the Grebnevo estate.
I was born and grew up in Moscow. I really love our bright, modern and dynamic city.” She received a translator’s diploma in 2006. “Despite the fact that in my life I was lucky enough to try myself as a school teacher and build a career in international corporations I still love my profession for the opportunity to create and mediate between cultures.
I fell in love with English while learned it from textbooks and dialogues from plays by William Shakespeare at school. Then I continued studies at the institute in Moscow, at Oxford in Exeter College and also during my work trips in New York.
During my free time I play Chopin’s nocturnes on the piano, walk with our dachshund Lavrusha, draw or read. “
We found Elena on the ProCharity intellectual volunteering platform, a resource where foundations are looking for professional helpers. It was a good day for us – Elena immediately responded to our assignment. We are very grateful to Elena for her help and hope that our cooperation will continue to be successful.
