Required: a rehabilitation course at the Rodnik Children’s Center (St. Petersburg) worth 176,000 rubles.
Diagnosis: Genetic focal epilepsy, STD
After the rehabilitation course, it is expected that Christina will be able to attend classes that are very necessary for her, will be able to better understand spoken language and improve her communication skills.
The rehabilitation course consisted of two intensive parts. During the rehabilitation period, which lasted a total of six weeks, the child received the following medical services:
• Neurologist (60 minutes), 24 lessons
• Neurologist (30 minutes), 10 lessons
• Sensory integration (60 minutes), 10 sessions
• Music therapy (30 minutes), 3 sessions
• Music therapy (45 minutes), 2 sessions
• Hand therapy (60 minutes), 12 sessions
• Hand therapy (45 minutes), 1 session
• Montessori therapy (60 minutes), 8 lessons
• Montessori therapy (45 minutes), 1 lesson
• Repeated consultation with a specialist, 1 appointment
Results after the rehabilitation course: Christina strengthened the skill of understanding everyday requests, learned to feel the body in space, and improved general understanding of speech.
From mom’s letter:
“Christina needed regular sessions with a speech pathologist to help with the development of speech understanding.
During the rehabilitation course, concentration improved, Christina became more diligent during classes. She began to better understand speech addressed to her, distinguish shapes and colors, some animals and fruits.
Spontaneous speech, of course, has not appeared, but she can pronounce individual small words, and when you show her the letters of the alphabet, she can accurately name each one!!!
Her fine motor skills have also improved, she holds a spoon more confidently, can take off and put on some items of clothing herself, and cut a little with scissors.
We took several classes every day!
I would like to note that during Montessori therapy classes, the stereotypical movements that Christina is subject to completely disappear. She completely immerses herself in the task she has chosen.
With the help of a speech therapist, we rehearsed the entire alphabet and sounds, because due to epileptic attacks, memory became short-term and Christina forgot a little how to pronounce some letters, overall it’s not bad!
The speech pathologist was trained to understand and fulfill simple everyday requests, and this skill was learned very well both at home and in society.
During sensory integration we learned to feel the body in space.
We thank the Foundation and everyone who helped Christina; her classes are very important to her!”
