(July 13, 1950 – October 25, 2018)
Debra Ann Hewitt Cockrell who was essentially an angel on earth, returned to her rightful place in Heaven on October 25, 2018 at the tender age of sixty-eight years old.
After a courageous battle with cancer, Debra peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Debra was a kind, generous and loving person who as respected by everyone she met because she returned that respect. She recently retired after 20 years as CFO of a charity that provided help to disabled Russian orphans also known as Diema’s Dream, where after her retirement she had returned to Vienna to be with family. There was nothing more in life that she loved to do than helping a child be safe and live life to the fullest.
Debra leaves behind her beloved husband of 38 years, Franklin, her sons, Matthew and Michael, as a well as daughter Anne and two step-daughters Linda Cockrell Vinson (Brian) and Julie N. Cockrell. Additionally, three sisters are left to mourn Debra’s passing who go by the names of Veryla L Alexander, Lynn H. Stocks and Mary H. Dudley. Lastly, Debra also leaves four grand-children, many nieces, nephews and too many wonderful friends to all name.
Debra forever leaves this world but will always remain in our memory and in the history of the Diema’s Dream Fund, without her our charity wouldn’t have gotten to the stage it is today.
Once again, Diema’as Dream expresses its condolences to Debra’s relatives and friends – Frank Cockrell, Mary Dudley, Lee Henry, Lynn & Woody Stocks.
