Prior to #GenerousTuesday, Diema’s Dream Fund will run the #Portage.QualityofLife campaign aimed at teaching vital skills and improving the quality of life of orphans with severe physical and psychological developmental problems. In these difficult times, despite the restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic, experts of the Portage teams in 5 regions of Russia continue giving classes in orphanages and online consultations for parents of children with health limitations. This way the process of education of children goes uninterrupted, which is very important for consolidation of the skills already acquired.
The Portage method is a simple and universal approach to individual work with children with health limitations, which was proven to be highly effective in meeting the individual learning needs of children with special health needs around the world.
The method allows to work in a variety of settings: with children and families at home and with orphans, including those with severe and multiple developmental problems. Classes using based on the “Portage” method help children with severe physical and psychological developmental problems acquire new vital skills: they learn how to wash up, dress, eat and drink on their own, distinguish between colours, assemble block sets and learn basic social skills. This has been proven in practice – for 7 years of the project’s activity in Russia, specially trained experts from 15 Portage teams have conducted 45,623 individual classes for 169 children and have achieved great results!
The funds raised during the #Portage.QualityofLife campaign are used to support classes based on the Portage method for children with severe and multiple developmental disabilities.
