From mom’s letter:
“Our Semyon was born prematurely at 35-36 weeks, from twins, by caesarean section. The second baby, unfortunately, did not survive. The pregnancy proceeded normally, and there were no signs of trouble. As a result of the doctor’s actions during childbirth, my son found himself in an extremely serious condition in the intensive care unit: asphyxia, hypoxia, congenital pneumonia, ischemic-hemorrhagic damage to the central nervous system, stage 2 IVH. at both sides. He himself was not breathing, he was on a ventilator for 13 days and on tube feeding for 18 days. But he still survived!!! As a result, we spent almost a month in the Perinatal Center, in the Neonatal Resuscitation and Intensive Care Unit No. 2 in Saratov. Then we were transferred to Children’s Hospital No. 4, where we stayed for up to a month and a half. And our courses of treatment began one after another. When he was born, he was a little man who couldn’t even cry or scream, he was so weak. And the worst thing is that the doctors could not tell us anything what would happen next… just a frightening unknown! Our diagnoses turned out to be too serious, and in 1.4 we had to apply for disability. Semyon could not sit due to weak back muscles, and his head hung somewhere behind him and could not hold up at all. Of course, we haven’t stopped fighting!!! Took courses of rehabilitation and treatment: Children’s Neurological Hospital No. 18, repeatedly took courses of inpatient treatment in the neurological department of Balakovo and in the Saratov Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital, sanatorium “Anapa” in Anapa, sanatorium “Romashka” in Pyatigorsk, RC in Volzhsky “First Step”, FOC “Adeli-Penza” and in the FOC “You Are Healthy”. After courses of sanatorium-resort treatment at the Anapa sanatorium, Semyon began to speak and his motor functions improved. Then we completed 6 rehabilitation courses at the You Are Healthy Center in Penza, and our results became even better!
We go to classes with a speech therapist, speech pathologist, and psychologist. We do sand therapy there, learn numbers and letters, and solve logical thinking problems. This year Semyon went to 5th grade! Of course, I really want Semyon to attend school on his own, and we work for this every day. We rejoice at our every little success! We bought him a special bicycle for children with cerebral palsy! Since with the help of a bicycle he can now move around without any help at all, and feel his independence! And also ride on bicycles along with other ordinary boys. At first, of course, it was not easy, since the bike was very heavy and the pedals had to be turned with difficulty, since the muscles in the legs were still weak, but thanks to our trips for treatment and rehabilitation, the muscles of the legs and back became stronger! Joy, of course, knew no bounds! He arrived all wet, tired, but so happy!!! By the end of the summer season, Semyon had completely mastered the bike!!! And now this is one of our favorite types of rehabilitation and sports. Semyon is a very active boy who loves all active activities. We have also been visiting the pool since last year and have achieved great success! Semyon learned to dive with breath-holding and swim in armbands, which we are very proud of!!!
Every year in our city a Spartakiad is held for children with disabilities, where children with various diagnoses participate, each in their own category. We, of course, also began to participate in it as soon as we received the invitation. For the first time, Semyon was the smallest participant in such a competition! And he won 2 first places at once: running 30 meters (although, of course, it’s difficult to call it running, I moved with the support of my dad) and throwing a ball! Well, and of course, all the children were given memorable gifts at the end. After such victories, we were looking forward to the next competition. And a year later we took three more prizes. He is a very sociable, friendly, kind, inquisitive, emotional and cheerful boy, very patient and resilient. An affectionate and sunny child who always smiles. Loves modern music, drawing, sculpting, singing and dancing, watching cartoons and educational videos. He always tries to help everyone to the best of his ability. In winter, Semyon helps his grandfather clear snow! (again, not without the help of dad). And he also manages to play pranks, diving into snowdrifts! Now he also rides a snow scooter! And he goes to feed the wild boars bread in the enclosure so that they don’t feel so hungry
