Required: rehabilitation course in the medical center “Sakura” (Chelyabinsk), worth 230,600 rubles.
Diagnosis: cerebral palsy, spastic diplegia.
Polina is 13, same as her sister Alisa. The twins were born with almost identical weight – less than 1.5kg, in critical condition. By some quirk of fate Alisa got well while Polina was diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
Despite her diagnosis, Polina challenges her fate! She is now homeschooled and is very good at reading, counting, studying English. She can sit, eat and walk with some support. However, to progress further the girl needs your help in paying for a rehabilitation course. Excellent results that followed previous rehabilitation courses motivate Polina and her mom to keep fighting!
Over the years Polina had three surgeries on her legs, two of those – back in June and October 2016. The doctors said, “We did our best, now the biggest responsibility is yours – rehabilitation!” The girl needs to exercise her legs, strengthen her back and work hard to continuously improve her health.
From her mother’s letter:
“We took a treatment course in the medical center “Sakura” located in Chelyabinsk where we achieved tremendous progress! Polina learnt to use a wheelchair which helped her to improve functions of her arms (she could hardly move her left arm before the course). As a result, my daughter started taking various objects with her left hand!
Later on, in the Institute of Medical Technologies in Moscow Polina had a course of medical injections which improved her memory and speech. She almost stopped stammering! But we have to move on to achieve new successes – we see good progress! Unfortunately, the administration of the Altai Krai where we live doesn’t allocate any funds to support children with cerebral palsy. There’s no chance to have a rehabilitation course paid for – there’s an e-queue with a thousand other people ahead of us. Last time we managed to stay at a health center free of charge back in 2016. Over the last four years there hasn’t been any progress in the e-queue. Whereas we can’t wait any longer – Polina is growing up and she needs treatment right now.
We got lucky in 2019 – Polina took three rehabilitation courses. Unfortunately, some charity funds gave up their support to kids with cerebral palsy, so we’re counting on your help! Polina dreams of walking on her own! We would like to take a treatment course in the medical center “Sakura” which focuses on PE, massage, manual therapy, exercises for arms and legs, etc. But our family can’t afford it. Please help my daughter to fulfil her life-long dream of walking on her own by taking the rehabilitation course!
Polina hasn’t had any treatment since November, 2019 – so, there’s been some decline. There’s some tension in her adductor muscles and more spasticity, she got internal rotation and started stammering again.
We believe that a course will help my daughter to decrease spasticity in her arms, improve speech and most importantly, decrease spasticity in her legs and boost her chances to walk on her own!
I would like to sincerely thank all the benefactors for your open hearts and belief in our children. I bow low to all of you!”
