From his mother’s letter:
«Semyon was born early, on 35-36 week, with a twin, after a C-section. Unfortunately, his twin did not survive. The pregnancy went well, so what could have gone wrong? As a result of the doctor’s actions my son in a critical condition was placed in ICU: he had asphyxia, hypoxia, congenital pneumonia, ischemic hemorrhagic damage to the central nervous system, intraventricular hemorrhage stage 2. He could not breathe by himself so he was put on ventilation for 13 days and tube feeding for 18 days. And he survived!!! We spent almost a month in the neonatal ICU № 2 in Saratov. We were then transferred to Children’s Hospital № 4, where we stayed until Semyon turned 1.5 months. And our courses of treatment went one after another. When he was born he could not even cry and scream, he was so weak. And the worst thing was that the doctors could not tell us what to expect. It was frightening. Our diagnoses turned out to be very serious, and when Semyon was 1.4, we had to register him as a disabled. Semyon could not sit because of weak back muscles and couldn’t hold his head. But we never stopped fighting! He underwent various rehabilitations and treatments: in Children’s Neurological Hospital № 18, the neurological department of Balakovo city and in the Saratov Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital, “Anapa” sanatorium in Anapa, “Romashka” sanatorium in Pyatigorsk, “First step” Rehabilitation Center in Volzhsky, the Sports and Recreation Center “Adeli-Penza” and the Sports and Recreation Center “Ty Zdorov”. After the courses of treatments in Anapa sanatorium Semyon had improvements in his motor functions and even started talking. Then he underwent 6 rehabilitation courses at the Sports and Recreation Center “Ty Zdorov” in Penza, and the results were even better!
Semyon has classes with a speech therapist and a psychologist. We are doing sand therapy there, learning numbers and letters, solving puzzles. This year Semyon went to 5th grade! Of course, I really want Semyon to attend school on his own, and we work on it every day. We are happy about every little success! We bought him a special bike for children with cerebral palsy, and since then he can move without any help at all and feel his independence! And also ride bicycles with other ordinary boys. At first, of course, it was not easy, but by the end of the summer Semyon got very used to riding the bike. Now it is one of our favorite types of rehabilitation and sports. Semyon is a very active boy who loves all kinds of active games. He likes swimming, and he can dive with holding his breath and swim in armbands, which we are very proud of!
Every year a sports and athletic contest is held for children with disabilities in our city, where children with different diagnoses participate in various contests. We also took part in it right after we were invited. For the first time, Semyon was the youngest participant in a competition! And he won 2 first places at once: running 30 meters (although, of course, it is difficult to call it running, he moved with the support of his dad) and throwing the ball! After the victories he were looking forward to the next competition. And a year later he won three more prizes. He is a very sociable, friendly, kind, cheerful and patient boy. He always smiles. He loves modern music, drawing, singing and dancing, watching cartoons and educational videos. He always tries to help everyone. In winter, Semyon helps his grandfather to shovel the snow! (again, not without the help of his dad). The stronger he gets; the more opportunities open up for him! And this is possible only with constant rehabilitation.
Now Semyon is 11 years old, he has cerebral palsy, spastic tetraparesis, dysarthria and postural disorder. But despite all the terrible diagnoses Semyon was able to first learn to crawl, then to get on all fours, stand with support, walk with support, ride a bicycle. But, unfortunately, he still cannot be fully independent. His speech not entirely clear to others, but those people who often communicate with him can understand him. He really wants to walk and run, but so far, he can’t learn to walk on his own. There is still a lot of work to be done and we are moving towards our goal despite everything.
He really needs constant rehabilitation and treatment which require a lot of money. We are not able to pay for everything on our own, since the only person who has a job in our family is his dad. This is the first time we ask for help. Only our Faith helps us to move forward! And, of course, people who are ready to help. And also, the persistence of my lovely son! I am asking you to help us to get to the rehabilitation center «Ty Zdorov»! »
